UHF Radio Command / Radio Alarm System
(Type 458-RC)

Designed by Chapman Associates and manufactured in the U.K. by K-Tech Limited.

The new 458-RC radio system is now available in two formats, a Radio Command system for remotely switching other electronic devices on or off, and a Radio Alarm system which is similar to the MINDA but capable of signalling over much greater distances. Both use a data coding format very similar to that used by MINDA and can be programmed using the same interface kit.

Using frequency-synthesized CE and ETSI approved modules they function on any of the eleven channels in the 458MHz band which the Radiocommunications Agency has allocated for low-power radio systems. They are licence-exempt when used in the U.K. in compliance with the R.A. Specification MPT 1329.

For the export market, a version operating in the 434MHz band can be produced to special order.

General

Overview

* Very simple to use.
* Licence exempt when used in UK (compliant with MPT 1329).
* A very secure Family Identity Code, if required.
* Operates on any of the eleven allocated radio channels in the 458MHz band (user selectable).
* Intelligent (microprocessor-controlled) transmitters and receivers provides automatic confidence transmissions and alarm repeats - programmable to suit users' needs.
* Range can be extended using external antenna on transmitter and/or receiver.
Transmitters

10mW/TX458RC Transmitter

* Small unit (100mm x 61mm x 25mm excluding antenna).
* Powered from internal 9V (MN1604) or external 6-16V DC supply.
* Very low 'quiescent' power consumption.
* 'Low battery' alert sent to receiver, if required.
* SMB antenna connector (to attach supplied antenna or an external one).
* Two push buttons (RED and GREEN) enable two functions to be signalled.
* LED 'low battery' indication to alert user.
TX458RC
TX458-500

500mW (TX458-500) Transmitter

* Hand-held unit (166mm x 95mm x 59mm excluding antenna).
* Powered from internal 9V (6x MN1500) or external 10-16V DC supply.
* Unit Identity can be changed by operator, if required.
* Battery condition meter fitted.
* BNC antenna connector.
* Transmitter can be activated by the two fitted push buttons or by external wired-in sensors.
Receivers

Command Receiver (Command RX 458-RC)

* Small unit (100mm x 61mm x 25mm excluding antenna).
* Latching relay with isolated SPCO contacts to switch loads of up to 1A at 30V DC or 0.3A at 125V AC or solid state (non-isolated) switches capable of switching 200mA load (customer to specify when ordering).
* SMB antenna socket (to attach wire antenna supplied or connect an external antenna).
* 'Channel-busy' LED shown when a signal is present on the received frequency.
* Battery economiser (user programmable) for extended battery life.
RX458-RC
RX458

Alarm Receiver (Alarm RX 458)

* Small unit (100mm x 61mm x 25mm excluding antenna).
* Green/Red LED display shows two status indications from up to four different transmitters, in the same format as original MINDA receivers.
* 'Channel-busy' LED shown when a signal is present on the received frequency.
* Programmable Alarm signal - can repeat at regular intervals.
* Lost signal alert - with programmable time delay and repeat option.
* Battery state monitoring of any Transmitter using the same Family Code.
* Easily distinguishable audible tone signals associated with each status message.
RX500-458

Desktop / Mobile Receiver (RX500-458)

* Automatic battery back-up operation if external power source fails.
* Receiver is fully protected against inadvertent reversal of external DC supply.
* Optional loud alarm signal output (up to 1.5 watts) when using external power.
* Internal loudspeaker and jack socket for connection of an external alarm loudspeaker.
* Relay-switched contacts OR open-drain FET output for external switching.
* 9 volt 200mA regulated DC output is available to power other equipment (only when receiver is using external power).
* RS-232 serial programming interface to a PC - additional items required.
MR458H

Repeater (MR458H)

For users who need to operate over greater distances than can be achieved using a basic MINDA system, a repeater system is now available. It is battery-powered and housed in a robust case. An alarm signal from a MINDA transmitter will be received by the repeater, decoded to confirm its validity, re-encoded and re-transmitted in the 458MHz band (in accordance with MPT 1329) at a power of output of up to 500 milliwatts.

* Very secure Family Identity Code, if working only with intelligent MINDA transmitters (TX500).
* Can use the same simple Family Codes as the 'dumb' MINDA transmitters (TX400) if required.
* Very low standby power consumption when using internal batteries with economiser.
* Automatic battery backup if external power source fails.
* Repeater is fully protected against inadvertent reversal of external DC supply.
* Only valid MINDA signals, with correct Family and Unit Identity Codes, will be repeated.
